Soundproof Sash Windows
One of the problems with living in an urban area is the sound intrusion of traffic noise be it from planes, trains or road vehicles. Our client had a specific desire to try and reduce the overall sound from all of these forms whilst also being required by a conservation order to remain sympathetic to the original design of the windows and doors he wished to replace.
Whyte & Wood Solution
We suggested that a combination of Optiphon acoustic glass be used in conjunction with toughened safety glass to make up the double glazed units. In addition, the glass also had our standard coating which helps reflect heat back into the room. Complete new Accoya box sash windows and doors were fitted to maximise the reduction of sound entering the property. We were able to replicate period features of the original sash windows yet incorporate modern technologies for a warmer, quieter home. The overall result was a huge reduction in air traffic noise and the dramatically improved appearance did not go unnoticed by local residents.
What The Client Said
“These windows are great! We’ve lived with the airplane noise for almost 20 years and whilst we knew it wouldn’t totally cut out the noise, it has made a huge difference. We haven’t been woken up with noise since they were installed, which is amazing!”
